Hello Foresight! Dr. Roger Li’s lab is looking for participants to help with their video game study. This is a great way for you to be more immersed in research and to learn more about optometry directly on campus. Currently, we are looking for participants who are NON-VIDEOGAMERS.

To determine whether or not you qualify for our study, please complete this questionnaire, and please be as specific as possible in your answers. Should you qualify for the study, you will be compensated for your time at a flexible rate ($10-13/hour) depending on how quickly you complete the study. You will be playing video games for a total of 40 hours (2 hours a session, 20 sessions). Prior to and following that, you will be asked to come into the lab to complete some other tests, split over 2-4 sessions (~1-1.5 hours each). Vision Study Participant

Dear Vision Science Students,
We are currently looking for volunteers to participate in an experiment in the Silver Lab, part of the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute and Berkeley Optometry. The purpose of this experiment is to examine the effects of learning on visual perception. Tasks involve viewing images and making judgments about them. In addition, we will administer the Alzheimer’s medication Donepezil to determine its effects on learning and visual perception.
The entire study consists of 17 sessions over the course of roughly one month: 1 screening, 2 introductory, 2 pre-training, 2 post-training, and 10 for training. Before each of the last 16 sessions, and for an additional 4 days (20 days total), you will take either a Donepezil pill or an inactive placebo pill. Compensation will be $15/hour, plus a $100 bonus for successfully completing all 17 sessions.
Eligibility: Subjects must be 18 – 80 years old, healthy, and have normal vision (natural or corrected). Subjects must not be pregnant, smoke tobacco, have asthma or other lung problems, a history of seizure or heart arrhythmia, or taking medications that affect central nervous system function.

Welcome and thank you for showing your interest in our eye study! We are studying visual learning on the UC Berkeley campus (School of Optometry, PI: Dr. Roger Li). To determine whether or not you qualify for our study, please complete the following questionnaire. We appreciate your time spent completing this form.

Candidates who are proactive, have great customer service, and can take initiative are strongly preferred. As there are multiple doctors in the office, we are looking for someone who is able to adapt and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment. We are also looking for someone who is a team player as you work with multiple staff members everyday.

Responsibilities include:

– Greeting and checking in/out patients

– Pre-testing patients along with performing ancillary testing including Optos, OCT, and Humphrey visual fields

– Answering phone calls

– Scheduling appointments

– Contact lens insertion and removal training

– Glasses dispense and adjustments

– Assisting the doctor in the exam rooms and in clinic with various tasks

– Other responsibilities will be assigned if the candidate proves up to the task, as well as the option of pursuing your own projects

The office is located in Lafayette and is easily accessible by Bart. It is a 20-25 minute ride from downtown Berkeley and 10 minutes from Rockridge. From there, it is about a 10 minute walk to the office.

This is a great opportunity to receive hands-on training and gain a first-hand look at the optometric field. The job is ideal for pre-optometry students (especially those in their gap year) looking to learn as much about the profession as possible while working with doctors who graduated from UCBSO. Experience in the optometric field is not necessary, but we do value self-motivation and a willingness to learn in any candidate. We are open to training the right person. We strongly prefer candidates who can commit at least 1-2 years to working with our patients as the training period can be long. We are looking for a volunteer to help with administrative tasks in the
Myopia Control Clinic, a specialty clinic within the UC Berkeley School of
Optometry. This position would entail:
• Maintaining orthokeratology trial lenses (inspecting & filing returned lenses, order replacements as needed)
• Facilitating returns/exchanges of lenses for patients
• Stocking printed copies of clinic documents
• Addressing and mailing birthday/reminder postcards to clinic patients
• Occasional phone calls/emails to patients
We anticipate a time commitment of 4 hours per week (can be on one day or divided into two sessions). We are looking for our volunteer to have the following qualities:

Ophthalmic Assistant

We are a busy ophthalmology practice located in Pacific Heights San Francisco.  We are seeking a full time medical office receptionist with full benefits.  Office hours are Monday – Friday 8AM to 5 PM.  Preference will be given to candidates with ophthalmology/optometry experience, but we are willing to train the right candidate.  This role would require communicating with patients in person and over the phone.  This includes triage of eye problems, scheduling appointments, scheduling eye surgeries and assistance with back office testing including Humphrey Visual field, corneal topography, and imaging of the retina.  The appropriate candidate will be a quick learner, professional and have excellent demeanor with patients.

 This is an excellent learning opportunity for a pre-optometry or pre-medical student seeking a gap 1-2 years before applying to graduate school.  There is a possibility to assist with research projects for the right candidate.  We are also willing to consider a part time position for the appropriate candidate.  Many of our former employees have gone on to medical or optometry school and have gained invaluable experience both in ophthalmic testing as well as patient communication.  The direct physician and optometrist supervisors have taught at all levels of optometry and medical school.

This individual will contribute to the development and implementation of clinical trials under the direct supervision of Dr. Ari Green and Dr. Jonah Chan, faculty members in the Department of Neurology.
