The Binocular Vision clinic has had a long history of recruiting 2-3 pre-optometry student volunteers every year to help us with maintaining the clinic in exchange for shadowing opportunities in our unique clinic. Our clinic offers thorough evaluations for patients with various neurological diseases such as strokes, concussions, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, etc. We also offer vision therapy for people in all age groups. So this would be an excellent opportunity for any pre-optometry students who are interested in learning more about the vision therapy/pediatric specialty and anyone who would like to learn more about our optometry program.
Various clerical tasks including but not limited to: making copies for the clinical tests we administer, placing orders for clinic supplies, organizing various vision therapy equipment, and assembling various equipment kits for therapy patients. New volunteers will be trained on how to execute these tasks. Volunteers will have the unique opportunity to shadow UC Berkeley doctors throughout the year and learn more about various aspects of what it is like to be an optometry student at UCBSO.
Prerequisite skills:
Superb organization skills and familiarity with spreadsheet and word processor software programs.
Time Commitment: The volunteers will be working with the Binocular Vision clinic for the entire 2021-2022 academic year, for an average of 4-6 hours per week per volunteer. Schedule is flexible and will be discussed upon interview.
